Google Desktop dead -- Windows Loses Market
Park City, UT – Janco has just released its Browser and Operating System Market Share White Paper. The major findings are that in the last 12 months Microsoft’s browser market share has continued to erode – Microsoft lost over 6% in the last 12 months; Firefox’s market share is unchanged for the last 12 months; Google Desktop and Chrome now have just under 6%; and Netscape is no more. On the operating systems side, Windows 7 is being accepted at a pace is parallel to the way Window XP was in the 90’s. The CEO of Janco Associates, Victor Janulaitis said, “The last six months have been a mixed bag for Microsoft. Their browser market share has fallen to level that they back in 1998 with no end in sight. At the same time Windows 7 now has 12% of the OS market in less than 7 months since its release.”

Google Desktop Dead End Product - Chrome Takes Over
The top five browser market share rankings are: 1 - Microsoft’s IE – 66.01%; 2 - Firefox – 18.50%; 3 – Google (Desktop & Chrome) – 6.56%; 4 – Konqueror (Linux) – 3.80%; 5 – Safari– 2.22%. The CEO of Janco Associates, Inc and the IT Productivity Center, M. Victor Janulaitis said: “The positive glow on Google’s Chrome has been dulled with the identification of some defects in the way it handles XML pages. But the real story is the continued erosion of Microsoft’s” market and the decay of Google’s Desktop market share.
A major finding in the report is that Microsoft’s new Operating System, Windows 7 has 23.05%% of the OS market less than 17 months after its availability. That is a major factor in Microsoft’s improved record earnings. Janulaitis said, “The last time that an OS was accepted as quickly the market was XP. Vista’s market share has peaked and is in the process of being decommissioned in most enterprises.”
Windows 7 Takes Off - Vista Falters
More interesting is the fact that more SmartPhones and devices other than PCs are accessing the Internet. As a result Microsoft is in a position that their operating systems are losing market share of devices that access the internet. In the last twelve months their market share has fallen from 86.3% to 80.29%. Its peak market share was 92.54% in April 2009. Janulaitis said, “Microsoft is in for the fight of its life as the Internet playing field moves away from traditional PC and into mobile devices.”
